Former Lois & Clark star Dean Cain announced a surprising pivot from his acting career when he revealed he planned to join the United States’ Immigration and Customs Enforcement department (ICE,) and former Glee actor Kevin McHale didn’t hold back on his thoughts.
“Look, I know the entertainment business is in shambles, but imagine being so out of work and desperate for attention (I would know) that you join ICE?” McHale, 37, wrote in a scathing message posted to X on Thursday, August 7. “F–king pathetic loser.”
Cain, 59, revealed his plans to join ICE the two days prior in a video he shared on social media.
“For those who don’t know, I am a sworn law enforcement officer, as well as being a filmmaker, and I felt it was important to join with our first responders to help secure the safety of all Americans, not just talk about it. So, I joined up,” Cain said in the clip posted on Tuesday, August 5.

The former ‘90s television star went on to add that those who joined ICE “could earn lots of benefits and pay,” and claimed that “since President Trump took office, ICE had arrested hundreds of thousands of criminals, including terrorists, rapists, murderers, pedophiles, MS-13 gang members and drug traffickers.”
Cain ended his message by saying, “If you want to help save America, ICE is arresting the worst of the worst and removing them from America’s streets. I like that. I voted for that. They need your help. We need your help, to protect our homeland and our families.”
Reaction to the video was split. While some praised Cain’s patriotism, others mocked his eligibility. ICE typically caps new applicants at age 37. Cain, now 59, seemed unfazed, replying to one user, “Perhaps we’ll get that changed…”
