Kelly Ripa is looking back on a very special day in 2001.
During her appearance on the Not Gonna Lie podcast, the daytime talk show host, 54, remembered calling into work on the day she gave birth to her daughter, Lola, now 24. Ripa explained that her daughter had “brilliant timing,” making the whole thing possible.
“It was brilliant timing on Lola’s part. Brilliant timing,” Ripa joked with host Kylie Kelce. “I went into labor like 14 hours before. She was born on Father’s Day, and the nurses came in with a Polaroid picture of my husband with his head in the bassinet, and she’s got her hand around his finger.”
“And they said, ‘There’s a new woman in your husband’s life.’ And, I’m looking at the clock and I’m like, ‘Theoretically, I think I’m going to be able to call in,’ ” she recalled. “They were like, ‘If there’s any way you can call in, that would be great.’ And sure enough, I called in and they said, ‘Oh, she’s here?’ And I said, ‘Yes, she’s here. She’s a girl. She’s adorable.'”
The mom of four added, “It was so funny that she was such a good girl that she timed it just right for her to be announced during the show.”

The mom of three went on to share the reactions from all of the nurses and doctors, after she revealed she’s be connecting with the studio.
“I think that nurses and the doctors were really excited because they were like, ‘Wait. We’re going to be on TV?’ And I’m like, ‘Nobody’s going to be on TV. My voice is going to be on a phone patched through a TV studio,’ ” she said. “I think everybody was sort of excited just to know that they were calling into Regis [Philbin], who was such a cultural icon in that moment.”
Ripa and her husband Mark Consuelos are the proud parents of sons Joaquin, 22, and Michael, 28, and daughter Lola. During a recent episode of the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, the All My Children alum opened up about how the loyal viewers of her talk show are like extended family members.
“Our children are fully aware. They’ll meet people on the street that will come up to them and say, ‘I watched you grow up. It is such a pleasure to see you as an adult,’ ” Ripa told host Amanda Hirsch.
She explained, “When my kids were little, they had the opportunity to come on and do, like, little segments … and people got a glimpse into their lives. And then they grew up, and they move on, and they move out, and they move out of the country in some cases, and people don’t get to regularly check in with them.”

“And so I feel like, once in a while, it’s important to sort of let people in because I feel like they had a group experience. My kids had a group childhood. It was like they had lots of aunties, lots of uncles, lots of grandparents,” Ripa continued.
The talk show host went on to say that her kids didn’t just have their parents and siblings as their village. Instead, they have people all across America and in Canada “raising them in some way.”
“It wasn’t just our parents and our siblings They had, like, America and Canada raising them in some way,” she said. “And so and [the viewers] really looked out for them and rooted for them, and they are fully aware of that.”
