Grammy-winning singer and talk show host Kelly Clarkson graced The Today Show Citi Concert Series stage on Tuesday, May 6 to perform a set of her greatest hits plus her new single — but the 43-year-old singer also got to show off her toned body after having lost a lot of weight over the past couple of years.
Clarkson famously opened up about her weight loss journey in a 2024 interview with Whoopi Goldberg on Clarkson’s talk show. The two of them were talking about how medication finally helped them lose weight, Ozempic for Goldberg and something else for Clarkson.
“Mine is a different one than people assume, but I ended up having to [go on medication] too because my bloodwork got so bad,” said Clarkson, adding, “My doctor chased me for like two years, and I was like, ‘No, I’m afraid of it. I already have thyroid problems.’ I was afraid. Everybody thinks it’s Ozempic, it’s not, it’s something else. But it’s something that aids in helping break down sugar, obviously my body doesn’t do it right.”
She also said that she never even realized she had gained so much weight until she saw a video of herself and didn’t even recognize the woman on screen.
“Do you know what’s funny?…I didn’t see it…I literally was watching [a performance], we were in my house…all of a sudden I paused it and I was like, ‘Who the f**k is that?!’ I swear to God. It sounds insane…I was never insecure about it, I was happy with who I was…I just did not see it,” said Clarkson.
On Today, she performed a set of “Miss Independent,” ‘Stronger,” “Behind These Hazel Eyes,” “Favorite Kind of High” and her new single “Where Have You Been.”
She also talked with the hosts about her ideal Mother’s Day celebration — getting to sleep in.
“All I ask for is to sleep in. That’s literally – I don’t need any gifts. That’s the gift,” said Clarkson with a laugh. Clarkson shares two children, daughter River, 10, and son Remy, 9, with ex-husband Brandon Blackstock.
The OG American Idol winner kicks off her Las Vegas residency called Kelly Clarkson: Studio Sessions at The Colosseum at Caesars Palace on Friday, July 4, 2025, with 18 performances scheduled through November 15, 2025.
