Katy Perry is in on the joke.

During her Lifetimes Tour show on Wednesday, May 7, Perry abruptly stopped her performance of “Thinking of You” to call out critics who make fun of the way she over-enunciates her words in the 2008 ballad.

In a video posted by a fan on TikTok, Perry, 40, broke into the second verse after fans started singing the song to her.

“You’re like an Indian summer in the middle of winter, like a hard candy with a,” she sang with dramatic facial expressions, before she declared to the crowd, “I don’t sing like that.”

Also on Wednesday night, which marked the start of the North American leg of her tour in Houston, Texas, she playfully clapped back at negative comments about her dancing skills.

In a fan video shared to social media, Perry paused her performance of “Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)”  and said, “Show them this when they say I can’t dance!”

Then, she confidently broke into a silly dance before pulling up her skirt and flashing her backside to the audience.

The week prior, the “Dark Horse” singer addressed the backlash she’s facing online in an April 29 comment underneath a post about a billboard fans created with a supportive message for her in New York City’s Times Square.

“When the ‘online’ world tries to make me a human Piñata, I take it with grace and send them love, cause I know so many people are hurting in so many ways and the internet is very much so a dumping ground for unhinged and unhealed,” she wrote.

Still, she expressed feeling “grateful” for fans and said, “We’re in this beautiful and wild journey together. I can continue to remain true to myself, heart open and honest especially because of our bond. I love you guys and have grown up together with you and am so excited to see you all over the world this year!”

She added, “Please know I am okay, I have done a lot work around knowing who I am, what is real and what is important to me. My therapist said something years ago that has been a game changer, ‘no one can make you believe something about yourself that you don’t already believe about yourself’ and if I ever do have any feelings about it then it’s an opportunity to investigate the feeling underneath it.”

“What’s real is seeing your faces every night, singing in unison, reading your notes, feeling your warmth. I find people to lock eyes and sing with and I know we are healing each other in a small way when I get to do that,” Perry continued.

She concluded her comments by writing that she’s “not perfect” and but always gets “back up” when she falls.

Up next, Perry will perform at the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City on May 9.
