Katie Holmes is celebrating the end of what felt like the longest winter on record with a layered look that served as a nod to multiple seasons. Spotted in New York City this afternoon, the Our Town actress donned a silk blouse with cropped lettuce-hem trousers and an oversized black blazer on top. Most notable, however, was her rather controversial footwear combination: gold pointed-toe fisherman sandals paired with pitch black tights.
While the black tights were very much on the winter weather side of things, the metallic sandals—courtesy of Franco Sarto—pretty much screamed summer. It’s a look that’s already been embraced by the likes of Lily-Rose Depp, who wore peep-toe heels and tights during Paris Fashion Week.

Holmes is frequently photographed while out and about in N.Y.C. and elsewhere. Whether she’s debuting a new way to wear a classic button-down or showing off the versatility of a strapless LBD, the Dawson’s Creek alum consistently proves that her outfit formulas are completely and utterly fool-proof.

Since becoming an empty nester last fall, Holmes kept plenty busy with a starring role in the Broadway revival of Our Town, which is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning play by Thornton Wilder. Ever the supportive daughter, Suri Noelle actually returned to N.Y.C. for her mother’s final performance, paying a surprise visit to the Barrymore Theatre in midtown Manhattan this January. The lookalike duo are famously close.
“I love her so much,” Holmes previously told InStyle. “My biggest goal has always been to nurture her into her individuality. To make sure she is 100 percent herself and strong, confident, and able. And to know it. She came out very strong—she’s always been a strong personality. She’ll pick an activity and work her butt off until she’s really good at it. Then she’s like, ‘Okay, I’m going to try the next thing.’ She’s very focused and a hard worker.”
