  • The Royal Horticultural Society has announced they’ve named a flower “Catherine’s Rose” after the Princess of Wales

  • The funds raised from sales of the flower will go to The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity

  • This comes after Kate, 43, had cancer treatment at The Royal Marsden Hospital in London and became a joint patron of The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust

Kate Middleton is blooming!

On Friday, May 9, the Royal Horticultural Society announced they’ve named a new rose after the Princess of Wales, 43, to celebrate her work highlighting the “healing power” of nature.

“Catherine’s Rose” has “subtle coral-pink blooms, which are produced in abundance, and have a rich perfume with hints of Turkish Delight and mango,” the RHS said in a release.

They confirmed that funds from the sales of the flowers will go to The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity, a cause which is close to the Princess’s heart, as she received treatment for cancer at The Royal Marsden Hospital.

“As a specialist cancer centre, The Royal Marsden’s mission is to ensure every patient has the care and support they need to achieve the best outcome and patient experience,” said Dame Cally Palmer, CEO of The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, in the release.

“Every rose sold will help The Royal Marsden establish a unique training programme for clinical teams across the country in prehabilitation and rehabilitation techniques which make such a difference to patient care,” Palmer continued.

“We are honored to have Their Royal Highnesses The Prince and Princess of Wales as Joint Patrons of our specialist cancer center and we are very grateful to The Princess and the Royal Horticultural Society for setting up this initiative and for the benefit it will bring to cancer patients everywhere,” Palmer added.

The Royal Marsden and The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) is the UK’s only National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) dedicated solely to cancer, according to the release.

They see and treat over 60,000 patients every year.

Having announced that she had finished chemotherapy back in September, Princess Kate and her husband, Prince William, were revealed as joint patrons of The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust shortly after she visited the Royal Marsden Hospital in January this year.

Cancer patient Angela Terry told PEOPLE at the time that the visit was a “great message of hope” as she praised the Princess of Wales for making a positive impact on others who have the disease.

The flower honoring Kate will show at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show, which will be held at the Royal Hospital Chelsea in London on May 20th-24th.

“As well as supporting the incredible work of The Royal Marsden, Catherine’s Rose will raise awareness of how nature and gardening can help to heal,” Clare Matterson, RHS Director General, said per the release. “We know how important this message is as every day we see how accessing nature and being outside is vital for our health and happiness.”

“This spectacular rose is going to bring so much joy to all our nation’s gardeners and keep our precious pollinators buzzing too. It’s a really special rose,” she concluded.

“Catherine’s Rose” has flowers that attract pollinators and is best planted in a “mixed border, as a hedge, in a large container or in a rose bed,” according to the RHS release.

Clusters of the rose can have up to 15 blooms, with each flower measuring between 8 and 12 cm. The plant that supports the blooms is described as “robust and bushy.” It will grow to about 4 feet tall by 3 feet wide, in average conditions.

Philip Harkness, Managing Director of Harkness Roses, which created the plant, said: “We’re delighted the RHS is naming this stunning floribunda rose for The Princess of Wales, celebrating wellness and nature.  It is a privilege for Harkness Roses to work with The Royal Marsden where donations of this beautiful rose will help raise funds for this vital charity.”

The bare root rose will be $40 [£29.99] and the potted plant $46 [£34.99]. Further Catherine’s Roses will be available in spring and fall 2026.
