Kate Middleton is breaking rules in the name of fashion!

When the Princess of Wales visited the V&A East Storehouse on June 10, her Prada pumps technically made the future queen a rulebreaker. For the occasion Tuesday, Kate paired her blue Alexander McQueen pantsuit with heels—even though the dress code said that people visiting should wear flats. The policy specifically states, “We recommend wearing practical clothing and flat shoes. The metal grid flooring is not suitable for stilettos or kitten heels.”

The V&A East Storehouse is a branch of the Victoria and Albert Museum, where Kate has served as royal patron since 2018—so maybe she gets a pass? Tristram Hunt, director of the V&A, didn’t seem upset about Kate ignoring the dress code, though, telling People, “She’s a literal pro! She dealt with that!”

“It went really well,” Hunt added. “She was really focused on the objects—it is impressive. She had a super energy. She was very energetic and focused.”

Hunt continued that “We last saw her about two years ago. She retains this great passion and interest in creativity and making and design. It was wonderful to be able to host her.”

Kate is a fan of the fashion-forward heel—even when flats might make her job as a royal easier. While pregnant with Prince Louis in 2018, Kate still wore heels to a royal engagement, and ended up getting her heel caught in a grate while visiting an addiction treatment center. She’s also worn heels to polo matches—despite the possibility of it sinking into the grass—and even wore heels to the gym while visiting the Coach Core program. The things we do for fashion!

That said, on a 2019 royal engagement in London with the Scouts, as Kate was planting a tree, she remarked, “Normally I have to do this in high heels—this is much easier!”
