Former Vice President Kamala Harris responded evasively on Thursday night when CBS host Stephen Colbert asked her who led the Democratic Party.

Harris’ interview on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” was one of her first media appearances since losing the 2024 presidential election. After Colbert asked Harris who led the party, the former vice president offered up a meandering response. (RELATED: Scott Jennings Savors Chance To ‘Eulogize’ Stephen Colbert’s ‘Garbage’ Show)

“There are lots of leaders, and-” Harris started with Colbert interrupting with, “There is generally a leader of the Democratic Party. Oh, that’s the leader of the Democratic Party. Who comes to mind?”

“I’m not going to go through names because then I’m going to leave somebody out and I’m going to hear about it,” Harris said. “Let me say this: I think it is a mistake for us who want to figure out how to get out and through this and get out of it to put it on the shoulders of any one person. It’s really on all of our shoulders. It really is.”

Democratic Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey took to the Senate floor Tuesday to object to legislation supported by fellow Democratic Sens. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota and Catherine Cortez-Masto of Nevada along with Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa, before going on to berate Democrats for being “complicit” in allowing President Donald Trump to pursue his agenda during the tirade. Harris appeared to endorse Booker’s comments during her interview with Colbert after he lauded her performance in her sole debate with Trump and highlighted her “predictions” about what would happen.

“Let me just say this: You are correct that I did predict a lot of it. But Stephen, what I did not predict was the capitulation. I didn’t predict that,” Harris said, with Colbert adding, “The rollover for this president.”

“Perhaps it’s naive of me, someone who has seen a lot that most people haven’t seen, but I believe that on some level, there should be many who consider themselves to be guardians of our system and our democracy who just capitulated,” Harris added. “I didn’t see that coming.”

Harris recently announced she would not run for governor of California, prompting speculation she may run for president again in 2028.
