Kaia Gerber didn’t feel pressured to follow in Cindy Crawford’s footsteps.
In speaking with Today alongside her supermodel mom and brother Presley, the 23-year-old model said that Crawford, 59, was anything but a “stage mom.”
“You are so not a stage mom,” Kaia said in the interview, which aired Thursday, May 8.
“Not at all,” agreed Presley, 25.
Kaia continued, “I kind of wish you were a little bit more, but she’s so not a stage mom at all, because she’s had her own life experiences, and she has never lived vicariously through us.”
The star also said that no matter what career Crawford has chosen, “I would have wanted to do that.”
“She’s always been my biggest inspiration and hero,” Kaia shared.
For her part, Crawford said that her family has always been her No. 1 priority.
“The greatest thing about having kids is you just … instantly know your priorities. You know it’s always family first,” she said, before turning to her son. “I think you told in preschool, [when] there was, like, ‘What do your parents do for work?’ And you told your preschool teachers that I didn’t work, and I was like, ‘Wow, that means I’m doing a great job,’ because he doesn’t feel my absence so much.”

During a recent joint interview with Vogue ahead of the family’s partnership with Vuori for the clothing brand’s spring 2025 campaign, Kaia told her mom that she often takes style inspiration from her.
“I’m probably more inspired by you, than you are by me,” she said. “Her style has been pretty dialed in for a while.”
She continued, “The nice thing about like looking quite similar to a parent is if I want to know if a hair or makeup look will look good on me, I will look up pictures of my mom — because if it looks good on her, most of the time, I can pull it off as well.”
“I trust Kaia’s opinion, but I also don’t wanna be one of those moms that tries too hard,” Cindy added. “I would never want to compete with my 23-year-old daughter.”

“Nothing makes me happier. If she wants to wear something that I wore 30 years ago,” she noted. “What bigger compliment is that?”
After the Vuori campaign went live, Cindy posted Instagram Stories of behind-the-scenes photos of Kaia, Presley and husband Rande Gerber at the shoot. She included two photos of both her husband and son climbing up separate palm trees, as well as a snap of her lookalike daughter smiling widely for the camera while the whole family enjoys a boat ride.
