Kai Cenat didn’t hit the Met steps.
The internet personality revealed on a recent livestream why he didn’t attend the 2025 Met Gala, despite receiving an invite to fashion’s biggest night at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City on Monday, May 5.
“I had an opportunity to go to the Met Gala, chat,” Cenat, 23, told his viewers. “But, I didn’t go because I’m not gonna lie, the brand that wanted to host me… I didn’t really, like, wanna do that brand.”
The popular Twitch streamer kept his reason for not hitting the famed, fashion steps short. He also didn’t reveal the brand that he opted against.

Despite not attending the Met Gala itself, Cenat did make his way to an afterparty thanks to an invite from Pharell. In classic internet-personality fashion, he also streamed live from the event.
“How the f— did I get in here?” the content creator asked at one point during the stream. Future, Jaden Smith, Keke Palmer, Ciara, Kim Kardashian and more stars made appearances throughout the hour-long video.

Attending the Met Gala is a hot ticket (and coveted at that)! In order to attend, you must be invited (and just because you were invited once, that doesn’t guarantee annual entry!).
The A-list guest list is kept confidential until the night before the Met Gala, though fashion fans cast predictions based on previous past. Regulars who often attend, for example, include the Kardashian-Jenner family, Gigi Hadid and Rihanna — all who attended this year, too.
In addition, fashion designers snag the invite as they often accompany their muse on the red carpet alongside their elaborate designs. Marc Jacobs, Christian Siriano, Nicolas Ghesquière and Zac Posen are step staples.
And receiving the invite is just the beginning: Guests must also buy a ticket to attend, or be a guest of someone who has (reminder, it’s a fundraising event for the Metropolitan Museum of Art!). The earnings go towards its extensive fashion collection … from the past seven centuries.

This year, the 2025 Met Gala theme was “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” which was tied to the museum’s upcoming exhibit of the same name. The coveted guest list was star-studded, to say the least, and co-chaired by a mix of Met Gala veterans and newcomers.
Actor Colman Domingo, F1 driver Lewis Hamilton, rapper A$AP Rocky, singer and designer Pharrell Williams and Anna Wintour were the co-chairs of the night. Simone Biles and her husband Jonathan Owens, Doechii, Regina King, Spike Lee, Angel Reese and Usher were on the host committee.
There are many memorable moments on the carpet, too. Among them included a high-fashion baby bump reveal, an 18-foot train and a manicure that took two days to complete.
