Julia Garner was unrecognizable after unveiling a head-turning hair transformation for a new role in Netflix’s upcoming series The Altruists.
On Wednesday, Aug. 13, the Weapons star, 31, was photographed on the set of the show in Vancouver, Canada. The series is based on the real-life cryptocurrency fraudsters Sam Bankman-Fried and Caroline Ellison.

In photos obtained by the Daily Mail, Garner swapped her short, bleach-blond hair for long, curly brunette locks to take on the role of Ellison. The bold hair makeover, combined with glasses and a major style switch-up, allowed Garner to practically disappear into the character.

Garner stars in The Altruists alongside Anthony Boyle as Bankman-Fried. Additionally, it features Alex Lawther, Matt Rife, Madison Hu, Karan Soni, Eugene Young and Naomi Okada.
In 2022, Ellison pleaded guilty to wire fraud, securities fraud, commodities fraud and money laundering as part of a plea deal for her part in the bankruptcy of the FTX cryptocurrency exchange. She testified against her former boyfriend, Bankman-Fried, as part of the plea deal. Ultimately, she was sentenced to two years in prison and forced to forfeit $11 billion for her role in the fraud case.
Meanwhile, Bankman-Fried was convicted on seven counts of seven counts of fraud in 2023 and sentenced to 25 years in prison.
