It’s been over a decade since fans were shocked to learn that Arnold Schwarzeneggerfathered a child out of wedlock, prompting a divorce from his longtime wife, political scion Maria Shriver.
But for the audience at The View, it’s seemingly still too soon to joke about.

On the April 29 episode of the panel talk show, Joy Behar made a jab at the Terminator star, implying that people who date men with muscular physiques should be careful, as “he’s going to leave you for the housekeeper anyway.”
The audience booed the quip, prompting co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin to reply, “Too soon! It’s only been 30 years!”
The moment was part of a larger conversation in which the panelists discussed the ideal physique for their partners. While Sara Haines said she prefers men who are “imperfectly perfect, I want someone who doesn’t stare in the mirror all the time,” Sunny Hostin said she doesn’t mind a chiseled body. “Just because he’s shredded doesn’t mean he stares in the mirror. It just means I can look, I can stare,” she noted.
“You have to be perfect if they’re perfect. I prefer a man who’s not perfect. I’m not perfect,” said Behar. “I like them to be legally blind even. That helps,” before name-dropping Schwarzenegger and referencing his extramarital affair with his then-housekeeper, Mildred Baena, which resulted in the birth of his son, Joseph Baena.
After Schwarzenegger publicly admitted to the situation, Shriver filed for divorce after 25 years of marriage and four children, Katherine, Christina, Patrick, and Christopher. The divorce was finalized in 2021, and Shriver has since said they have a good relationship as co-parents.
“He’s the father of my children. We’re grandparents together, and I don’t wanna have hate. I don’t wanna have anger in my body towards another person. I don’t want that in my life at all,” Shriver told Oprah Winfrey in a March episode of The Oprah Podcast.
