Groff is nominated for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical
Jonathan Groff gave a bold performance at the 2025 Tony Awards.
The actor, 40, ventured out into the audience during his Just in Time musical number at the 78th annual award show on Sunday, June 8 at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall. There, he straddled his The Matrix Resurrections costar Keanu Reeves.
While performing a melody of songs from the show about the life and career of singer Bobby Darin, including “Mack the Knife, “That’s All” and “Once in a Lifetime,” Groff left the stage, leaping into the A-list crowd with one leg on either side of Reeves, 60.
The Tony winner stood on the armrests of the John Wick star’s seat as he played to the crowd behind him. Reeves, meanwhile, was shown from between the singer’s legs as he cheered along. At one point, he even flashed two rock and roll signs to the camera.

Groff is nominated for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical for his role as Bobby Darin in the Broadway musical. Darren Criss, Andrew Durand, Tom Francis, James Monroe Iglehart and Jeremy Jordan are also nominated in the category.
The new bio-musical, directed by Alex Timbers, received six Tony Awards total. It opened in April at Circle in the Square Theatre in N.Y.C.

“It’s meant so much,” Groff told PEOPLE of his nomination at a press event in May. “We’ve been developing this Bobby Darin musical for eight years now. So to get six nominations for the show was just phenomenal and incredible. It’s been such a long road to get here, and every night at the theater feels like a gift.”
Groff previously starred on Broadway in the original casts of Spring Awakening, Hamilton and last season’s revival of Merrily We Roll Along — for which he nabbed his first Tony Award.
Reeves, who is presenting at the award show, is set to make his Broadway debut in the upcoming revival of Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot. He’ll star alongside his Bill & Ted costar Alex Winter.
