Superstore star Jon Miyahara, who played Brett on all six seasons of the NBC comedy, has died at 83.

Miyahara’s daughter, Pennie Cappasola, confirmed the news to PEOPLE on Thursday, telling the outlet that the actor died Wednesday with his wife, Chiyo, by his side. No cause of death was provided.

While there’s no official statement from the family, Cappasola also told PEOPLE of her father, “He loved working on Superstore.”

On the show, which followed the employees of a fictional store named Cloud 9, Miyahara played Brett in a total of 105 episodes throughout its run from 2015 to 2021 — including the series premiere and finale.

His character was famously thought to be dead in the season 2 finale after a tornado destroyed the store. After his coworkers held a memorial for him, it was revealed at the beginning of the following season that he had been alive and well the whole time and had escaped the storm by driving home.

Miyahara, who, per his IMDB profile, was born Aug. 8, 1941, in Los Angeles, also played Bob in one episode of the TV series Holding Tight in 2022.

Superstore alums took to social media to memorialize their former costar on Thursday. Colton Dunn, who played Garrett on the show, eulogized the silent scene stealer in a post shared to his Instagram, writing, “John was a really awesome guy and as a performer could speak volumes with just a look. He was such a memorable part of the Cloud 9 team. It was an honor to know him and work with him. I was lucky enough to meet some of his family and my thoughts are with them. Rest in Peace John.”

Several other stars commented on Dunn’s post to share their condolences, such as Kelly Stables, who played Kelly. She commented, “Oh man! He was always so sweet! Rest in peace.”

“What an incredible man,” Irene White, who played Carol, added. Michael Bunin, who played Jeff, also commented, “I’m so sad to hear this news. Many fun days and many fun conversations. Very nice guy.”

Amir Korangy, who played Superstore employee Sayid, commented on Dunn’s Instagram post as well, sharing, “He was such an amazing soul. Caring, smart and fun with a wonderful calming Zen demeanor. He was so sweet when I got ill and had so many positive conversations with me. R.I.P.”
