Joint Venture has acquired all North American rights to “If You See Something,” a new thriller from Iraqi filmmaker Oday Rasheed.

The story follows a romance between an American woman and an Iraqi doctor seeking political asylum in the United States. It examines how the life they’ve built together is threatened as secrets begin to bubble to the surface. The film made its world premiere at the Woodstock Film Festival in October of 2024. Joint Venture, a newly launched indie film studio, will release “If You See Something” in theaters later this year.

“’If You See Something’ enthralled us with unexpected twists and turns. At its heart, it is a story about community and we want audiences to be able to experience this gripping and emotional film with their own communities,” said Chris Lane, president of distribution and audience at Joint Venture, in a statement.

“If You See Something” stars Adam Bakri (“All That’s Left of You”) and Jess Jacobs (“Long Weekend”) with Nassir Faris (“The Looming Tower”) and Tony-Award winning Reed Birney (“The Menu”). The cast is
rounded out by Tarek Bishara, Lucy Owens, Hadi Tabbal, Krystina Alabado, Hend Ayoub, and Reggie Gowland. The film was written by Avram Noble Ludwig and Jess Jacobs.

“As an immigrant filmmaker, I feel very reassured that my first English-language film is in the hands of friends at Joint Venture. With them, I feel I’m more welcome in my new country. They are true partners to promote a cinema that seeks what is essential in our real lives and in our imaginations,” Rasheed said in a statement.

In November after the world premiere, it was announced that Doug Liman had joined the film as an executive producer. Liman is known for directing blockbusters like “The Bourne Identity” and “Edge of Tomorrow,” as well as indies like “Go” and “Swingers.”

“If You See Something” is produced by Jacobs, Stephanie Roush, and Brian Newman, alongside Frank Hall Green and Caitlin Zvoleff for Greenmachine Film, Andre Basso for 9th Street Films, and Joseph Stephans. Paul Jacobs serves as executive producer, alongside Liman.

The deal was negotiated by Newman on behalf of the film, and Lane and Becca Leckie on behalf of Joint Venture.
