John Cena Opens Up About ‘Shame’ Before His Hair Transplant originally appeared on Parade.
John Cena opened up about the “shame” he felt about getting a hair transplant before he finally got the procedure done.
While Cena, 48, experienced many accomplishments during his time in the WWE, he pointed out that one negative part of being in the spotlight included his fans pointing out his hair loss. “As I was trying to hide my hair loss, the audience was bringing it to light,” he told People in an interview published on Wednesday, August 6.
“I saw their signs that said ‘The bald John Cena,’” he recalled. “They pushed me into going to see what my options were. I now have a routine: red-light therapy, minoxidil, vitamins, shampoo, conditioner — and I also got a hair transplant last November.”
While reflecting on his hair transplant, he continued, “I hate the fact that if there wasn’t so much shame around it, I’d have gotten it done 10 years ago. I thought I was alone, but seven or eight out of 10 [men] suffer from thinning or baldness.”
Cena went on to insist that he loves his new look. “They don’t do anything except move your hair, one by one, from one area to another,” the Blockers actor said.
“If somebody’s going to sweat me for that, I don’t think there’s any shame in that,” Cena added of his critics. “It completely changed the course of my life.”
Not only did the hair transplant help him find more confidence, but it also has had a positive impact on his acting career. “A different hairstyle can identify a part that can get me more work, do the thing I love to do,” he said.

Cena first revealed that he got a hair transplant while appearing on an April episode of the Pat McAfee Show. “You chant and you make me feel small and you embarrass me,” he said of the WWE World crowd. “Y’all don’t know what that’s like. That is straight-up bullying. That’s just not cool. I don’t like it.”
“So, thank you for bullying me into getting surgical hair replacement,” he added. “That’s how far y’all push me.”
