Although John Cena is certainly a recognizable face in Hollywood, the WWE wrestler likes to keep his relationship with his wife, Shay Shariatzadeh, somewhat out of the spotlight.
However, the low-key lovebirds made an appearance at Amazon’s Upfront red carpet in New York City on Monday, May 12. “We try to make a date out of all these things,” Cena, 48, told E! News. “She’s here and we’re going to have some fun.”

The Ricky Stanicky actor and the engineer met in Vancouver, Canada, in 2019. The following year, Cena and Shariatzadeh tied the knot in a private ceremony on October 12, 2020, in Tampa, Florida. They also had a second wedding celebration with friends and family in Vancouver in July 2022.
In the years since they’ve gotten married, Cena has expressed why he chooses to live more privately with Shariatzadeh.
“I certainly value her safety and well-being. One of the promises I made to her on the altar was, ‘I will do my best not to put you in any undue harm’s way,’” he explained during an April 2024 episode of the “Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard” podcast.

“It’s not to say that everyone out there has bad intentions or we’d ever run into someone bad, but you also never know when someone feels threatened,” Cena added.
Ultimately, the Heads of State star defers to Shariatzadeh on what they attend together.
“If my wife, who is my travel partner and partner in life, now feels unsafe or uncomfortable in all these new places we go, I’ve got another hurdle to climb in my personal life,” Cena said. “It’s just an exercise in the strength of boundaries and the value of boundaries.”
