Ashley Biden has filed for divorce from her husband of 13 years, Dr. Howard Krein.
The daughter of former President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden filed via the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas on August 11. Details of the complaint are not present in the file.
According to The Philadelphia Inquirer, on that same say, Ashley shared an Instagram Story in which she gave a thumbs up while walking through the park. She in included the song “Freedom” by Beyoncé in the post.
She also shared a post that said, “New life, new beginnings, means new boundaries. New ways of being that won’t look or sound like they did before,” with the song “Freedom Time” by Lauryn Hill, per the outlet.
Ashley and Krein wed on June 2, 2012, at the steepled St. Joseph on the Brandywine Roman Catholic Church, in Greenville, Delaware. Their ceremony included the bride’s Catholic customs and the groom’s Jewish ones, People reported.
At the time of the nuptials, Joe, 82, was serving as the U.S. vice president. He walked with Ashley down the aisle and previously spoke with the publication about preparing for the special day, saying, “I kept telling Ash, ‘We’ve got to open up the church and practice walking up and down the aisle so I can handle it.'”
Ashley and Krein were introduced through her late half-brother, Beau Biden, and began dating in the summer of 2010, according to the outlet. The former couple got engaged in October 2011.
Joe and Jill welcomed Ashley on June 8, 1981. Joe also shares son Hunter Biden with his late first wife, Neilia Hunter Biden, who was tragically killed in a 1972 car crash along with their one-year-old daughter, Naomi Christina Biden. Beau and Hunter both survived the accident.
Beau later died of brain cancer in 2015 at the age of 46.
