Joanna Gaines Enters a New Era With Bold Career Move: ‘The Next Thing’ originally appeared on Parade.
On August 6, Joanna Gaines and the Magnolia Network announced that her show Magnolia Table: At the Farm will also be broadcast concurrently on the Food Network and streaming on HBO Max the same day.
It’s a shift for Gaines, who is one of the premier DIY-ers in the country. But in a new interview with Delish, she talks about the natural transition of going from interior design to cooking and why it just feels right.
“I never wanted to be, ‘I did design and now I want to move into food.’ I don’t know how to express home without talking about food. Because yes, home is a beautiful space. But it’s also, What are you eating? What are you smelling? Food has so much power,” said Gaines.

Gaines also detailed how she doesn’t want the show to feel over-produced, like they’re in a studio set version of her home. She wants it to feel as real and as authentic as possible, so they’re filming in her actual kitchen and pantry using one cameraperson and as few takes as they can get away with.
“I literally was like, ‘If I burn it, we’re screwed. But who cares?’ Every time we think about the next thing, we think about how we can connect to people in a way where they feel that gratitude, but they also feel that openness and that vulnerability,” explained the TV personality.
She also said she hopes her fans love this shift because she sees them as her friends and hopes they want to continue on the journey together.

“I do feel like these people are my friends, not fans,” she says of her millions of viewers and followers. “And I always want to help them create something beautiful on the table.”
Magnolia Table: On the Farm debuts Sunday, September 7, at 11 a.m. ET/PT on Magnolia Network and Food Network, streaming same-day on HBO Max. The first season will be comprised of six episodes, “centered on the art of baking — featuring cherished family recipes, seasonal favorites, and simple, sweet comforts.”
