When former CNN host Jim Acosta told Democratic Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett on Wednesday that he was concerned that President Donald Trump’s administration might arrest her, she agreed his concerns were well-founded.

Democratic Newark Mayor Ras Baraka was arrested on May 9 outside of an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in his city, with Democratic New Jersey Rep. LaMonica McIver facing charges for allegedly assaulting law enforcement officers there the same day. Acosta, on “The Jim Acosta Show,” discussed the incident and suggested that Crockett could face a similar threat. “To me, it’s not America when ICE agents can show up in masks, uh, sweep people up off the street, send them out of the country without due process, put them in these facilities and we don’t even know what’s happening inside these facilities,” Acosta said. “So, of course, it makes sense that members of Congress would want to go visit one of these ICE facilities and say, ‘Okay, what’s going on here? We’re members of Congress, we represent the people, we want to know what’s going on here.’”

“And then there’s there’s this scuffle where they’re giving these members of Congress a hard time and I’m worried about folks like yourself, Congresswoman, because I have to assume that you know, of course, they would like to arrest you and some of the others who are more outspoken in the House,” he continued. “That’s just me thinking that.”

Crockett immediately told Acosta he was “absolutely right.” She said her deputy chief of staff’s grandmother shared the same concern.

“After I got done in D.C., I had to go to El Paso to testify in federal court as it relates to the redistricting that was done in 2020 in the state of Texas,” she said. “And his grandmother did not know why we were going to El Paso, but she thought we were going to a detention facility … ‘I don’t know about Jasmine going, ’cause you know they want to lock her up and they probably gon’ grab her and throw her in too.’”

“And so, you know, it is sad that people are fearful and that they are looking at people like me and really scared because they know that there is a target on my back when you have the President of the United States who consistently drops my name and gets people all riled up,” she continued.

Crockett said Sunday on “Alex Witt Reports” that if Democrats were to regain a majority in the House, they would probe Trump on numerous issues.

“Listen, so long as we end up taking the House, which I fully anticipate that we will do and we are gonna work hard to obviously help our Senate colleagues as well,” she said. “Then as someone who serves on the Oversight Committee and hopes to lead the Oversight Committee, I can guarantee you that we will do what we are supposed to do as constitutionally sworn members of the House.”

“Which means that we will conduct oversight, that means that we will investigate, we will look at whether or not this president himself has violated the Emoluments Clause as relates to say such things as getting a $400 million plane from the Qataris,” she added. “We also will make sure that we’re looking into all these business deals that they have going on.”
