Jessica Chastain is going back to school this year. Variety reported that the Academy Award-winning actress has enrolled in a two-year program for her master’s degree in public administration at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.
Originally from Sacramento, California, Chastain attended Sacramento City College from 1996 to 1997, and later finished her education at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1998. She eventually went on to the prestigious Juilliard School in New York City, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2003. Chastain received Academy Award nominations for Best Actress for her performances in the films The Help (2011) and Zero Dark Thirty (2012), eventually winning for her portrayal of Tammy Faye Bakker in the biopic The Eyes of Tammy Faye (2021).
In 2016, Chastain co-founded the production company Freckle Films, and she is an investor in the Los Angeles soccer club Angel City FC. She’s also been a vocal activist on equal pay and workplace discrimination in Hollywood. “We have a long way to go in the world in all industries,” she told Town & Country in 2017. “If I’m in the situation where I have equal experience to the other actor and my role is just as significant, there is no reason why I should be paid less. It’s not really part of my world anymore, because I just won’t accept it.”
The Scenes From a Marriage actress has several film and television projects still in the works, including The Savant, an eight-episode crime thriller miniseries coming to Apple TV+ this fall, and Assassination, a reimagining of the murder John F. Kennedy from the perspective of the Chicago mafia, co-starring Al Pacino, Bryan Cranston, and Brendan Fraser.
