Jennifer Love Hewitt has finally made one of her most sought-after hair transformations her reality.
In a Friday, May 9, Instagram post, The Ghost Whisperer actress revealed that she swapped her brunette hair for something a bit more daring for the warmer months ahead — with the help of celebrity hairstylist Nikki Lee, she updated her cropped dark brunette hair from starring in 9-1-1 to a honey blonde-tinged red.
“I have wanted to be red for so long!” Hewitt captioned a picture of her posing to show off her freshly colored mane. “@nikkilee901 crushed this color! She named my color Sunset Lover…Thank you @nikkilee901 @seama901 @tarynhoustonn.”
After the hair transformation, Lee revealed that the 9-1-1 actress’ copper red transformation is about to become “summer’s hottest trend.” She also revealed that Hewitt, 46, has been wanting to transition to the new shade for a while.
“Jennifer’s been wanting to color her hair this color for the longest time, but work wouldn’t allow for her to make the big change,” the hairstylist added. “We finally found the perfect window of time to make the transformation, and we couldn’t be happier with the outcome.”

To change Hewitt’s locks from brunette to the new “Sunset Lover” shade, Lee used a combination of Wella’s Professionals Koleston Perfect Permanent Hair Dye, Blondorplex Lightner and Color Touch Demi-Permanent Hair Dye. Lee also used Great Lengths hair extensions to add fullness and length to Hewitt’s strands.
This isn’t the first time that the I Know What You Did Last Summer actress has experimented with red. In 2023, the star hopped on the Ariel hair trend and dyed her hair a glossy, deep auburn ahead of fall.

Lee was responsible for the color then as well, and the actress paid the celebrity hairstylist — who has also worked with Hilary Duff and Selena Gomez — a visit at her Nine Zero One salon. In addition to giving Hewitt an update to her hair color at the time, she also cut off several inches and gave her a shoulder-grazing cropped bob for the season.

Prior to the auburn shade, Hewitt sported long blonde hair with sandy brunette highlights.
“Ready for Fall🎃🧡,” she wrote of the blonde-to-auburn hair transformation in a since-deleted Instagram post.
