Now that Jennifer Lopez’s divorce with Ben Affleck is settled and his press tour for The Accountant 2 is over, it’s J. Lo’s time to speak out. In a recent interview, Jennifer Lopez revealed how she told her kids about the divorce and reflected on the past few years.
To say Ben and Jen’s relationship was full of ups and downs would be an understatement. After a whirlwind romance, engagement, and breakup in the early 2000s, they each got married (to other people) and had kids before they reconnected 20 years later in 2021. Ben shares kids Violet, Fin, and Samuel with Jennifer Garner, while J. Lo is mom of twins Max and Emme with Marc Anthony, making them one big blended family. The kids even had roles in J. Lo and Ben’s 2022 wedding. So, naturally, they were top of Jennifer’s mind when the couple decided to split in 2024.
“I said, ‘I promise you, this is a difficult time, but you’re going to see that I’ll come out the other side stronger and better,” Jennifer recounted to El País, via Page Six. “I promised them that, and I did it. And they feel it now. That gives me a great sense of peace in my life.”
She continued, saying that she was “happier” now that she was “a step further along” than a few years ago. “I’m proud of myself for that, and I’m proud that I was able to navigate my children through difficult times, that they’re stronger because of it.”
It sounds like J. Lo’s kids have adapted well to their new family dynamic. And they still appear to have a good relationship with Ben. Emme and Max attended his Accountant 2 premiere in April, as did his kids Fin and Violet, and their former stepdad gushed about them on the red carpet. “For the record, Jennifer Lopez is spectacular, great to my kids, great ongoing relationship with them. I love her kids. They’re wonderful,” he told Entertainment Tonight.
He continued, saying that he was “thrilled” to have the kids in attendance. “The relationships that you can have with children like that—it’s the joy of my life. And those kids are amazing, and I’m glad that this is a movie they want to come to.”
