Jennifer Lawrence has spent the last 10 years away from the Met Gala, and tonight marked yet another absence. The actress, who is based in New York City, chose not to spend her night out at the 2025 event. Her skipping the festivities is understandable, however, as Lawrence welcomed her second child earlier this year.
Lawrence sparked rumors she could attend the 2025 Met Gala when she was photographed at a private fashion event on Friday night.
The star made her Met Gala debut in 2013 in a black flower-adorned Christian Dior dress:
Lawrence hasn’t attended many events this year, which makes sense given her recent second pregnancy. On April 1, People confirmed that Lawrence and her husband, Cooke Maroney, had welcomed their new baby but did not reveal the child’s birth date.
A source told the outlet on April 8 that Lawrence was “doing well. Being back in that newborn phase with a toddler as well can be overwhelming, but Jen’s [got] such a great attitude. She’s meant to be a mom. She’s calm and just goes with the flow. Cooke’s a great dad too. They are good at balancing it all together.”
In June 2023, Lawrence spoke to Cameron Diaz for Interview magazine about how parenthood has changed the way she approaches her career. “There’s no squeezing when you have a baby,” she said. “There’s just home, and it’s the best. It definitely helps weed out projects: ‘Yes. No. Yes. No. Yes. No. Is this worth being away from my child for half the day?’”
She added, “Fortunately, my husband is the greatest father in the entire world, so when I’m working, I don’t have any more guilt than the usual every day, all-day parent guilt.”
