Jennifer Hudson works hard, and plays even harder.
The 43-year-old EGOT recipient, who also has an eponymous daytime talk show, spoke exclusively to PEOPLE about her HomeGoods Finding Time Off partnership, explaining what the campaign means to her.
“I’m a HomeGoods girl,” Hudson said recently. “It’s a place where I find my time for me and I pass almost every day coming from work.”

The stores, which feature a variety of products — from furniture and bedding to picnic staples and home decor — have a way of putting the Dreamgirls star at ease.
“I dream about going in there every single time. And when I do get to go in, it is like a treasure. Like a candy store,” Hudson told PEOPLE.

For the movie star, who recently produced the Broadway musical Smash, “It’s just something about when you take time and you pick your things for yourself and then being able to put it in your space, it makes it feel that much more like home.”
Hudson enjoys her time off with her loved ones as well.
The American Idol alum shares her 15-year-old son David Daniel Otunga Jr. with her ex-fiancé, former WWE Star David Otunga.
She also comes from a large family, previously revealing in June 2024 that when she was 16 years old, she learned her father had 27 children.

“It was my dream to have all of us at this grand Thanksgiving or Christmas table, and we all sit and eat together — that was my goal at 16,” she said at the time.
Hudson explained that it’s a full-circle moment seeing her son enjoy the things she once did as a child. “Y’all don’t understand how much I love the games. First of all, I grew up with my brother watching basketball and now my son is a basketball kid.”
When it comes to her home, Hudson added, “It is a rim in the pool. It’s a rim in the bedroom, everywhere you turn.”
And the fun at home extends to their relatives: “I have seven of his cousins, so I roll around with a basketball team.”

The “Spotlight” singer also told PEOPLE, “And I love music, [but] I rarely get out much.”
Additional ways for her to find time off include concerts or going to dinner, however, Hudson remained adamant that “basketball is probably number one at this point.”
“This year’s about finding my time off. And so I’m splitting the difference,” she explained to PEOPLE, “Because normally Jennifer got like four, five, six jobs at one time. But this season is really for me – about having quality time for myself.”

“And so I’m balancing it out. I did a lot last year where I did the holiday album and the show at the same time, toured with it. So this year, this is all my time until I say I’m ready to do otherwise,” Hudson declares.

“Maybe it encouraged me to do more and when I feel the time is right, I’m going to get back in the studio. But until then you can find me at the happy place,” she said, referring to HomeGoods.
