Jenna Bush Hager is sharing why she got emotional when taking her daughter to a concert.

The mom of three, 43, spoke about taking her older daughter, Mila, 12, to see Gracie Abrams perform on a Wednesday, July 30, episode of Today with Jenna & Friends. Bush Hager explained that she started crying when she saw how happy her daughter was and realized that it might be the last time her daughter would allow her to go to a concert with her.

“It was so much fun and I don’t like…I’m going through something, obviously. My oldest is going into middle school,” Bush Hager began. “For whatever reason, we sat down, and this is like, think about how embarrassing this is as a child. And just seeing how excited they were for her. I started crying. I was like, ‘This is so beautiful. Look at like…’ To see this concert through their eyes.”

As her husband, Henry Hager, went to get their family sodas, Bush Hager thought about how her daughter might not want to go to concerts with her mom in the next few years.

“And I was just thinking like, this could be the last time my seventh grader is cool with sitting next to her mom at a concert. In a few years, she’s going to be going with all of her buddies and not mommy,” Bush Hager explained, getting a little emotional.

“And he got back and he was like, ‘Are you crying again?’ And I was like, I just was thinking time is going so fast. And she’ll sit next to me and hold my hand a little. And he’s like, ‘Don’t cry. She’s humiliated. You know, you want to keep her next to you.’ But it was so fun.”

Bush Hager and her husband share daughters Mila and Poppy, 9, as well as son Hal, 5.

This past April, Bush Hager celebrated her daughter Mila’s 12th birthday by sharing a sweet tribute to the tween on Instagram.

The proud mom’s birthday post featured a series of photos of Mila happily enjoying a few of the simple things in life — a cuddle with her cat, delicious food and some sibling bonding with her sister Poppy. Jenna also included two snaps of the mother-daughter duo posing together.

“Twelve years of our darling girl–Mila we LOVE all of who you are: all heart, spirit and humor. You burrata, cat-loving, Grays Anatomy queen! We love you so!” the proud mom wrote in her sweet caption.
