Jennifer Affleck and husband Zac faced many highs and lows throughout season 1 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives.
Season 2 shows the couple grappling with separation, only to learn that they’re expecting another baby.
Jen talks with PEOPLE exclusively about healing and moving forward in her relationship, while still being part of MomTok and the show.

Fans of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives all walked away from season 1 with an opinion on Jen and Zac, whose struggles with shifting marital dynamics were on full display throughout the first season.
Speaking exclusively with PEOPLE about season 2, the soon-to-be mom of three shares an update on how the two have worked on their relationship while awaiting the birth of baby no. 3.
“Just because of everything that we went through last year and because of everything we’ve had to do so much therapy,” she explains.

Watching back the events of season 1 left more questions than answers between husband and wife. While there’s undoubtedly a lot of love between them, they couldn’t ignore the toxic patterns that were called out by other members of MomTok and viewers alike.
Season 2 finds the couple living apart, with them trying different types of therapy to repair some of what’s been damaged.
“It’s all a blessing in disguise, but I definitely think it is daunting coming back to MomTok because we have gone through so much being a part of it,” Jen says.
“But again, we’re learning so much on the way, so only taking the positives right now.”
During the season, Jen reveals that part of working on their relationship has meant Zac deferring his medical school acceptance in Arizona as they figure out their next steps.
“He still hasn’t officially decided,” she says of whether he’ll continue down that path.
“He still has about five months to decide, but as of right now, I think his priority is just supporting me and so I guess we’ll see.”

Jen is happy to report that she and Zac have made some positive steps since taking a closer look at what could be changed for the better in their relationship and dynamics.
“We are finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel,” she says. “Right now I’m focusing on my mental health, my marriage and becoming the best version of myself that I can be.”
The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives‘ new season will premiere May 15, with all 10 episodes available on Hulu and Hulu on Disney+.
