Will the real Slim Shady please stand up?
Eminem appeared as a surprise guest during Jelly Roll’s set on Sunday night at Ford Field in Detroit, emerging on stage to a deafening crowd to perform the final verse of his 2002 hit “Lose Yourself.” Jelly Roll, who has covered the song in the past, began the track solo before the rapper strolled onto stage to help him complete the hit.
At the end of the song, Eminem greeted the crowd: “Detroit, what up?! Long time no see. One more time, make some noise for Jelly Roll!”
Speaking to the crowd after Eminem departed the stage, Jelly Roll told the audience (via Billboard): “If you can’t tell, that was a childhood dream come f—ing true, Detroit. This is the greatest show I’ve ever had in my f—ing life.” He also said that Eminem’s music helped him “through the darkest moments of my life.”
This isn’t the first link up between the two music superstars. Eminem sampled Jelly Roll’s 2020 song “Save Me” in “Somebody Save Me,” a track from his 12th studio album The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce). They also joined forces for a joint performance at the televised “Live from Detroit: The Concert at Michigan Central” last year.

Jelly Roll called Eminem a “childhood hero” following the release of the sample, sharing that he could “recite every song” from the rapper’s discography. “When I bonded out of jail at 17 years old and was sneaking into cyphers and battles in Nashville they would also play the ‘Lose Yourself’ beat when I came out on stage at the freestyle battles,” he said. “I related to every word Eminem wrote. I understand him and felt like he understood me, which was rare cause I spent most of my life feeling misunderstood.”
He also shouted out Eminem’s manager Paul Rosenberg: “You’ve been nothing but kind to me and treated me like family and gave me opportunities I didn’t deserve. Forever grateful.”
Sunday’s reunion was part of Post Malone’s Big Ass Stadium Tour, his eighth concert tour in support of his sixth studio album, F-1 Trillion. The tour counts Jelly Roll and Sierra Ferrell, among others, as supporting acts. It kicked off last month in Salt Lake City and will conclude in September in Lisbon.
