Aquaman’s Jason Momoa is trading in the kingdom of Atlantis for 18th-century Hawai’i in Apple TV+’s Chief of War.

The streamer has released a trailer for the historical drama, which debuts its first two episodes Friday, Aug. 1, followed by one new installment every Friday through Sept. 19. The footage sees warrior Ka’iana (played by Momoa) leading the effort to unify Hawai’i in a fight against colonizers.

The nine-episode series “follows the epic and unprecedented telling of the unification and colonization of Hawaii from an indigenous point of view,” according to the official synopsis.

In addition to Momoa, Chief of War features a predominantly Polynesian cast including Luciane Buchanan (The Night Agent), Temuera Morrison (The Book of Boba Fett), Te Ao o Hinepehinga (Breakwater), Cliff Curtis (Fear the Walking Dead), Moses Goods (NCIS: Hawai’i), Siua Ikale‘o (NCIS: Hawai’i), Brandon Finn (Three Women), James Udom (Echo 3), Mainei Kinimaka (See), Te Kohe Tuhaka (The Dead Lands), Benjamin Hoetjes (Mystery Road) and newcomer Kaina Makua.

Momoa also serves as co-creator, along with Thomas Pa’a Sibbett, who wrote the 2018 Momoa film Braven.
