The 2025 Met Gala is here, the theme is “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” and the dress code is “Tailored for You.” So far, celebrities are by and large nailing it, but we’re here to obsess over Janelle Monáe’s look. The multi-hyphenate showed up on the red carpet dressed in a suit jacket (like a literal jacket with a suit printed on it), with an actual suit underneath it. Confused? Behold:
Janelle is officially part of the host committee at this years Met Gala, along with André 3000, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Grace Wales Bonner, Simone Biles and Jonathan Owens, Jordan Casteel, Dapper Dan, Doechii, Ayo Edebiri, Edward Enninful, Jeremy O. Harris, Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, Rashid Johnson, Regina King, Spike Lee and Tonya Lewis Lee, Audra McDonald, Jeremy Pope, Angel Reese, Sha’Carri Richardson, Olivier Rousteing, Tyla, Usher, and Kara Walker.
They’re gathering (along with co-chairs Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, and Pharrell Williams, as well as honorary chair LeBron James) to celebrate the opening of the “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” exhibit, which—per Vogue—“will explore the role of sartorial style in forming Black identities, focusing on the emergence, significance, and proliferation of the Black dandy.”
Just FYI, this isn’t Janelle’s first Met rodeo, and she’s known for bringing it on the carpet. Here she is in Thom Browne at the 2023 gala:
And we can’t forget the time she showed up in Christian Siriano at the 2019 Met:
Never not nailing it.
