It’s a friendship that’s lasted over two decades.
Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan first became close when they starred in 2003’s Freaky Friday. In the Disney film, Curtis, 66, played Tess Coleman, mom of Lohan’s Anna. Anna, meanwhile, is a guitarist in the band Pink Slip, while Tess, a psychiatrist, is trying to keep everything together as she marries her fiancé Ryan (played by Mark Harmon).
Curtis and Lohan, 39, reunite on-screen for the first time in 22 years in this summer’s Freakier Friday, but while off-camera, their friendship has remained strong. When Lohan welcomed son Laui in 2023, Curtis joked she was now a “movie grandmother,” and Lohan cheered Curtis on when she won her Oscar for Everything, Everywhere, All At Once that same year.
Curtis, who broke into the industry at age 20 with Halloween, spoke of developing that friendship with Lohan despite their age difference. “Lindsay was 15,” Curtis noted to PEOPLE this May about working with Lohan on the first film. “… I think it’s important, particularly with someone who is young in the movie business, if you connect with them, you have to let them know it’s real. There’s R-E-E-L life, and then there’s R-E-A-L life. I wanted her to understand that there was a bridge and that I was real, and that she always could be real with me. And she was.”

Lohan told PEOPLE this July in an interview with Curtis, “Jamie was with me at a time in my life when I was going through a lot publicly. She was privately really there for me.” Curtis added of her costar, “I know I can trust her. And I can’t say that about a lot of people.”
“We connected, and we really stayed connected. And that is special and rare for me,” Curtis added.

Rocking Out
In Freaky Friday, Pink Slip performs multiple songs, including “Take Me Away” and “Ultimate,” which Lohan released as a single. Both Curtis and Lohan took guitar lessons from guitarist Amir Derakh, who was then part of the band Orgy.
“[The] reason ‘Ultimate’ was even found and created and tailored the way it was, was because Lindsay worked really hard to learn to play the guitar in the early scenes in the movie,” director Mark Waters told ELLE in 2023, but part of the joke was that she never got to play it. “Ultimate” gave her that solo moment.
