James Jones, a breakout star of “Love on the Spectrum,” has earned a reputation as a straight-shooter, so it’s no surprise he’s been upfront about his intentions with his girlfriend, Shelley Wolfe.
Recently, James’ mother, June Jones, appeared on the “Talk to Me Sis” podcast, co-hosted by Lise Smith and Nikki Tomlinson. Like June, both Smith and Tomlinson are mothers of young men featured on the Netflix series.
“James is talking about this as permanent and long term and that they’re going to live together,” June shared, noting that she’s remaining cautiously optimistic.
“Being a mom, I don’t want him hurt, so you know, I want to make sure that she feels the same way,” she said. “But it’s terrific.”
Though James tried his hand at speed dating, his most meaningful connection came when Wolfe reached out to him online.

June shared that Shelley is “very calming” for James. She described James as a “considerate boyfriend,” highlighting his attentiveness: “He always asks her, ‘Is everything OK?’”
James regularly shares glimpses of his relationship with Shelley on Instagram, posting videos and photos of the couple singing karaoke, touring museums and grilling together.
According to June, James, 37, has set a timeline: he hopes to be married by the time he’s 40.
During the conversation, June mentioned that the neurodivergent couple are actively working on their communication. She explained that sometimes James tends to “blurt out things without thinking,” which can unintentionally hurt Shelley’s feelings. However, they are making progress and navigating the moments together.
James, now often stopped in the street by adoring fans, has come a long way. As June recalled, his social calendar wasn’t always so packed, and that was difficult for him, especially as he watched his older brother, William, build a life with a wife and kids. (Fans of “Love on the Spectrum” will remember: James has made it very clear he does not want children.)
“He’s just blossomed so much through this,” June said of his fame. “It’s been, like, the best thing ever.”
