James Gunn reacts to Trisha Paytas naming her baby Aquaman: ‘Won’t he get made fun of in school?’

James Gunn is concerned for influencer Trisha Paytas’ new baby, Aquaman.

When the new head of DC was asked about the internet personality naming her child after the comic book hero, he wondered if the child — full name Aquaman Moses Paytas-Hacman — is going to be okay with his moniker growing up.

“I saw that, yes,” Gunn told Entertainment Tonight at Comic-Con on Sunday. “I think that’s cool. I mean, I hope he does okay in school. I had a hard time with the last name Gunn — Tommy gun, BB gun, ray gun, I’m like, ‘Okay, we get it.'”

The filmmaker/showrunner/studio head then asked, “Is his middle name Gary or something? Are they going to call him AQ? What are they going to call him? Won’t he get made fun of in school? Do kids make fun of kids anymore?”

“He’s going to be fine,” Peacemaker star Frank Grillo said. “Especially if he lives in New York where I grew up, he’ll be great.”

“He’ll be fine,” Peacemaker star Tim Meadows agreed.

YouTuber/influencer Trisha announced the birth of her third child, Aquaman, on July 22 with an Instagram post featuring 14 images of herself with baby Aquaman, husband Moses Hacmon, and their two other children, Malibu Barbie and Elvis.

In the announcement photo gallery, Trisha leaned in to the baby’s unusual name, showing the infant blissfully slumbering while clad in a child’s onesie version of the suit originally worn by the DC character in his 1941 More Fun Comics debut.

In an episode of her Just Trish podcast, Trisha and Hacmon explained how they landed on Aquaman’s name. “We watched three movies to really solidify this name,” she said, noting that she “knew it was the right name” when she spotted an Aquaman poster at a doctor’s visit during her pregnancy.

Paytas has been a full-time content creator since 2007, when she launched her YouTube channel, and has made numerous appearances on TV series like Modern Family, America’s Got Talent, Dr. Phil, Celebrity Big Brother UK, and Saturday Night Live.

Meanwhile Gunn’s new DC universe officially debuted with Superman, now playing in theaters, and will continue in Peacemaker season 2, premiering Aug. 21 on HBO Max.
