American Idol has crowned a new winner.
On the May 18 season finale of the popular singing competition show, finalist Jamal Roberts found out that he’d won, with the support of his family and friends — and loads of new fans — behind him.
After the show aired, Idol judge Luke Bryan posted a TikTok showing his reaction to Roberts’ name being announced as the winner.
“What a way to close out the season! Congrats @officialjamalroberts,” Bryan captioned the post. Roberts shared the post on his own social media, adding a five word message to the country music star.
“Thanks for believing in me,” Roberts wrote on his Instagram Stories, tagging Bryan.
Meanwhile, dozens of fans commented on Bryan’s post on TikTok, many overjoyed to see Roberts crowned the new winner.
“America got this one right! Congratulations my idol Jamal Roberts,” one person wrote.
“Jamal is the epitome of American Idol. I am so happy for Jamal and his family. you could tell he poured his heart and soul into every performance,” someone else said.
“Luke was the biggest Jamal supporter this season and I love it!!” read a third comment.
As for Roberts, he took to Instagram with a message of his own.
“I’m still trying to process this… God is so good,” Roberts captioned a post.
“From my first step on that stage to this unbelievable moment, I never dreamed a kid from my hometown would one day be called American Idol. This journey has been bigger than me, and I’m so grateful for every person who believed in me when I was just chasing a dream,” he continued, going on to thank his fans for their support.
