Jaguars’ Cam Little talks 70-yard kick: ‘That’s a long way down there’

There was nothing small about Cam Little’s 70-yard kick.

The Jacksonville Jaguars kicker secured an unofficial record when he smashed a 70-yard field goal through the uprights vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers in preseason Week 1.

The kick sailed through the uprights with room to spare. How did the kicker feel when he surveyed the field? Not that intimidated, he said.

“We were, I think, would it be the minus-48, I think is what it is? Eight yards further back from that, and add the 10 yards for the end zone, it was 70.

“I was like, ‘Dude, let’s kick this.'”

Little added that he, his coaches and his holder were all in favor of kicking the lengthy try, with no campaigning required amongst anyone involved.

“As soon as I step on the field, I kind of like, just black out at that point – for most kicks not just a long one before halftime or a big-time situation. … I get out there, and I’m looking down at the uprights, and I’m like, ‘Dang, this is a really long ways down there.'”

The rest is history – kind of. Since the kick happened in preseason, it doesn’t count as an official stat towards Little’s line or NFL record books.

Still, it’s a preseason moment to go down in the annals of other forgotten preseason moments.

Longest field goal in NFL history

The record for the longest field goal is 66 yards, and that was notched by former Baltimore Ravens kicker Justin Tucker vs. the Detroit Lions in 2021.

Little’s 70-yarder won’t be found in record books, however, considering preseason stats don’t count toward official NFL statistics.
