Jack Osbourne Spoke About Estranged Sister Days Before Reunion at Ozzy’s Funeral originally appeared on Parade.
Days before dad Ozzy Osbourne‘s death, Jack Osbourne got candid about his estranged relationship with older sister Aimee Osbourne.
While fans of the late Black Sabbath rocker are well-acquainted with Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne‘s kids Jack and Kelly Osbourne — as they famously starred on the family’s early 2000s MTV reality show The Osbourneswith their parents — it was only after Ozzy’s July 22 death and subsequent funeral that many realized for the first time that the Prince of Darkness was actually a father of six.
As Sharon, 72, openly wept at her husband’s funeral on July 30, she was surrounded by her three children: Kelly, 40, Jack, 39, and eldest daughter Aimee, 41, who chose to forge her own path in the music industry while distancing herself from her family’s spotlight. (In addition to his children with Sharon, Ozzy was also father to his three eldest: Elliot Kinglsey, Jessica Osbourne, and Louis Osbourne, whom he shared with first wife Thelma Riley, adopting her son Elliot after their marriage.)
In one of the many emotional photos from Ozzy’s public funeral in his hometown of Birmingham, England, Aimee — wearing a black beret and a short black veil in front of her face — is seen standing directly next to Jack, who has his face turned slightly. A bereft Kelly stands beside them, as mom Sharon covers her mouth in grief.
Ozzy’s funeral was an unexpected reunion for Jack and Aimee, one that Jack certainly didn’t see coming when he discussed his estrangement from her just days prior. On the July 16 episode of Katie Maloney and Dayna Kathan‘s Disrespectfully podcast, Jack didn’t mince words about the siblings’ rift.
“We’re not close at all,” he told the podcast hosts on the episode, which premiered six days before Ozzy’s July 22 death. (The “Crazy Train” singer died at age 76 after a decades-long battle with Parkinson’s Disease.)
“We don’t have a great relationship, she’ll be the first to tell you that, so it’s no secret,” Jack shared.
Despite the brother-sister duo’s fractured relationship, the two stood together at their father’s funeral — alongside sister Kelly, mom Sharon, and half-sibling Louis — and the family’s statement on Ozzy’s death was signed by Sharon and four of his biological children.
“It is with more sadness than mere words can convey that we have to report that our beloved Ozzy Osbourne has passed away this morning,” the statement, shared via social media, read at the time. “He was with his family and surrounded by love. We ask everyone to respect our family privacy at this time. Sharon, Jack, Kelly, Aimee and Louis.”
Following her father’s funeral, Kelly reached out to fans to thank them for their support.
“I’ve sat down to write this a hundred times and still don’t know if the words will ever feel like enough.. but from the bottom of my heart, thank you,” the TV personality shared via Instagram on Monday, August 4. “The love, support, and beautiful messages I’ve received from so many of you have truly helped carry me through the hardest moment of my life. Every kind word, every shared memory, every bit of compassion has meant more than I can ever explain.”
