Italian royal, Princess Maria Carolina of Bourbon-Two Sicilies, is “lucky to be alive” after being seriously injured in a motorcycle accident.
On Wednesday, May 28, the 21-year-old — who is the eldest daughter of Prince Carlo, Duke of Castro, 62, and Princess Camilla, Duchess of Castro, 54 — shared multiple photos of herself in the hospital on Instagram, warning her followers to take care when out on the road.
“I’m incredibly lucky to be alive. I crashed headfirst into a wall whilst riding a motorcycle and ended up in reanimation in the Intensive Care Unit. Surviving this was nothing short of a miracle,” the royal, who is the Duchess of Calabria and Duchess of Palermo, captioned the post.

She added, “I wanted to share my own experience as I’ve realized now more than ever that motorcycles are powerful and thrilling but also unforgiving. Please ride with care. Wear full protection, especially a proper helmet. Mine saved my life.”
“My deepest thanks to the outstanding team at Centre Hospitalier Princesse Grace for their expert care during those critical days, and to the emergency medical team and first responders on the scene, whose quick and decisive actions in those first moments made all the difference,” Princess Maria Carolina concluded, adding a praying emoji.

The royal posted the message alongside a shot showing her posing in her motorcycle gear and helmet, as well as three photos showing her recovering in a hospital bed while wearing a neck brace. A further picture showed her with wires all over her head.
According to Tatler, the Italian heiress is known as Carolina and is a member of the Spanish branch of Bourbons, who ruled Southern Italy and Sicily for over a century.
The socialite — who currently lives between Paris, Monte Carlo and Rome — appeared to suffer the injuries just days after attending the Monaco Grand Prix over Memorial Day weekend.
The princess shared multiple snaps on Instagram from the event earlier this week, including several of herself wearing a blue halter-neck dress as she posed with a helicopter and on the helipad by the water.
“Grand Prix weekend recap,” she captioned the post.
