Music streaming platform Spotify said it has resolved an outage affecting a large number of users on April 16.
“Spotify experienced an outage today beginning around 6:20 am EDT. As of 11:45 am EDT, Spotify is back up and functioning normally. You can check @SpotifyStatus X channel for any additional updates,” a Spotify spokesperson told USA TODAY in a statement.
More than 48,000 users had reported issues accessing Spotify by 9:45 a.m. ET, according to outage tracking platform Downdetector.

When accessing the Spotify website during the outage, a banner reading, “Hey! We’re aware of issues loading the Spotify app and website,” stretched across the top, directing users to a community thread.
The company previously said in a statement to USA TODAY and in a post shared to X, formerly Twitter, that “reports of this being a security hack are completely inaccurate.”
‘Something went wrong. Try reloading Your Library’
Comments left by users beneath the community thread during the five-hour outage complained of not being able to log in or access the mobile app or website altogether, as well as issues with playback and missing albums, songs, or account features for those who could get the service running in some capacity.
“We’re seeing reports from users that the app isn’t loading properly or that they’re experiencing playback issues. Others report that they’re having issues accessing the Support site,” said the community thread post. “This seems to happen both on mobile and desktop devices.”
Spotify users at USA TODAY reported being able to access the app and website, but faced errors when trying to load playlists and podcasts or search the site. One error said, “Something went wrong. Try reloading Your Library.”
