Irina Shayk isn’t letting loose at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
In 2023, the supermodel and mom returned to the French Riviera for the star-studded event, making a statement in some of her most skin-baring looks to date.
Anyone who kept a close eye on the celebrity fashion happening at the time would remember that Shayk, 39, displayed her abs in a risqué Mowalola two-piece look at the Firebrand (Le Jeu De La Reine) premiere on May 21 before stripping down to lingerie covered merely by a sheer overly at Hôtel Martinez the next day.

However, she decided to steer clear of risks for this year’s opening ceremony on May 13 because of the event’s new dress codes, which banned “nudity” on the red carpet for “decency reasons.”
Shayk made an elegant entrance in a black and white polka-dot floor-length gown from the Armani Privé Fall/Winter 2019 couture collection. It featured a flouncy pleated skirt and exaggerated balloon sleeves, while the only feature showing off a hint of nakedness was the strapless bodice that allowed for a peep of Shayk’s décolletage and shoulders.
She also accessorized with black gloves that amped of the ensemble’s coverage and two-toned pendant earrings.
This year’s Cannes Film Festival dress code also prohibited sneakers and voluminous outfits, particularly those with trains, that would quite literally stop red carpet traffic.

Protocols were updated to reflect “certain rules that have long been in effect” reps told The Hollywood Reporter. They added that the goal of the update is “not to regulate attire per se but to prohibit full nudity on the carpet” in accordance to the festival and French law.
An official FAQ website for the festival also states that “welcoming teams will be obligated to prohibit red carpet access to anyone not respecting these rules.”
It’s unclear if Shayk always planned to wear the Armani gown or adjusted her outfit accordingly, but thankfully, it fit the bill.

Only hours into what is about to be a weeks-long celebration of film and fashion, stars have either already broken the code or have spoken out about the sartorial prohibitions.
In an interview with Variety published on May 13, jury member Halle Berry revealed that she had to change her outfit last minute because it was a violation. “I had an amazing dress by [Gaurav] Gupta that I cannot wear tonight because it’s too big of a train,” the actress said. “I’m not going to break the rules. The nudity part is also probably a good rule.”
