Be prepared for extreme heat
July is Extreme Heat Safety Month.
The Illinois Emergency Management Agency and Office of Homeland Security is reminding everyone to hydrate with water, wear light-colored, lightweight and loose-fitting clothing and find shade and cooling centers during extreme heat, which is defined as high heat and humidity temperatures above 90 degrees for at least two to three days.
LaHood: Dems fear-mongering over SNAP cuts
While Gov. J.B. Pritzker says he’s “raising awareness” about the impacts of the so-called “big, beautiful bill” on food subsidies, a Republican congressman says far-left Democrats are ramping up their fear-mongering.
Pritzker said President Donald Trump’s spending bill endangers families that rely on SNAP. Illinois U.S. Rep. Darin LaHood said that’s “false” and the focus is preserving the program for those who need it most while increasing transparency.
7 arrested in drug, gun bust
Seven individuals, aged between 22 and 44, are charged with federal drug and gun crimes after an investigation on the South Side of Chicago.
Federal prosecutors announced they seized 2,000 pounds of marijuana, around 81 firearms and over $700,000 in cash and jewelry. In addition to the federal charges, 15 individuals were charged in state court as a result of the investigation.
