Nearly three years before Oprah Winfrey debuted her eponymous TV show, Sally Jessy Raphael was the first woman to host a nationally syndicated daytime talk show — and there’s no question she made her mark on the industry. In those days, Raphael was known for her trademark red-framed glasses and short blonde hair. As a recent pic proved, however, the groundbreaking TV personality has a very different look now…and fans are loving it.
Raphael, 90, took to Instagram recently to share a photo of herself digging into a plate of oysters. Her hair, dyed a vibrant shade of red, fell past her shoulders, and she wasn’t wearing any eyeglasses — though she did accessorize with a pair of gold earrings and a colorful necklace.
“In New England enjoying some oysters… aren’t these supposed to be an aphrodisiac?! 😜” she quipped in her caption.
Fans in the comments were quick to rave about the star’s appearance, with one writing, “You look so lovely! Beautiful earrings sally 🥰🥰.”
“I love you, SJR! Come test out the aphrodisiac qualities over here, honey! 😍” gushed a second person.
“Walking through the store today saw a lady with your signature haircut and thought of you! legend!🥰” added someone else, with yet another fan chiming in to say, “Hey Sally, I’m your age and I would like to say that you’re gorgeous.”
In an interview with People earlier this year, Raphael opened up about being considered “cute again” at the age of 90.
“You’re cute when you’re young, and then for a long time, you’re not cute. And then when you get to be 80 or 90, you’re cute again. People always say, ‘That cute old lady,’ so I guess I’m cute again,” she said.
“It’s really interesting being 90 because if you dye your hair and you don’t have any veins in your legs, then people say you look young,” Raphael reflected. “And that’s always nice that people say, although why they think looking young when you can claim 90 is beyond me, but they think it’s a compliment.”
