Mark Hamill might be known to audiences worldwide as Star Wars hero Luke Skywalker, but it looks like the actor is finally crossing over to the dark side for his next movie.
In the trailer for the upcoming film adaptation of Stephen King‘s 1979 novel, The Long Walk (published under King’s pseudonym, Richard Bachman), Hamill is in full-on villain mode as The Major as he oversees a group of 100 teen boys on a deadly march.
The clip features Hamill, wearing aviator glasses and a black cap, shouting at the doomed teens from an army Jeep to “walk until there’s only one of you left.”
“Who’s ready to win?” he yells before shooting his gun into the sky.
At Lionsgate’s CinemaCon presentation last month, Hamill opened up the appeal of playing a character like The Major.
“The premise alone is nightmare-inducing, but it’s good to get out of your comfort zone,” Hamill said, via The Hollywood Reporter.
“If you can’t be the hero, there’s nothing better than being the villain,” he added. “If you get booed and people hate your guts, then you’ve done your job.”
The Long Walk, scheduled for release in September 2025, is directed by Francis Lawrence (Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping) and stars Cooper Hoffman, David Jonsson, Charlie Plummer, Ben Wang, Roman Griffin Davis and Judy Greer.
