Immigration authorities arrested an illegal migrant after he allegedly sent a threatening letter declaring he would shoot President Donald Trump.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents arrested Ramon Morales-Reyes, a 54-year-old illegal migrant from Mexico, Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed in a Wednesday press release. The arrest took place on May 22, just one day after an ICE field intelligence officer received a handwritten letter in the mail, allegedly penned by Morales-Reyes, threatening to assassinate the president. “Thanks to our ICE officers, this illegal alien who threatened to assassinate President Trump is behind bars,” Noem said in the prepared statement. “This threat comes not even a year after President Trump was shot in Butler, Pennsylvania and less than two weeks after former FBI Director Comey called for the President’s assassination.”
In his alleged letter to immigration authorities, Morales claimed Trump was “messing with us Mexicans” and that it was time that he “get what he has coming to him.” The Mexican national went on to allegedly claim that he would self-deport from the country, but only after shooting “your precious president” in the head.
“We are tired of this president messing with us Mexicans – We have done more for this country than you white people – you have been deporting my family and I think it is time Donald J. Trump get what he has coming to him,” he allegedly wrote. “I will self deport myself back to Mexico but not before I use my 30 yard 6 to shoot your precious president in is head – I will see him at one of his big ralleys [sic].”
The weapon in reference appears to be the .30-06 Springfield rifle.

Morales is a repeat illegal border crosser and carries an extensive criminal history, according to DHS. The Mexican national unlawfully entered the U.S. at least nine times between 1998 and 2005, and he has previously been arrested for felony hit and run, disorderly conduct with a domestic abuse modifier and criminal damage to property.
In the aftermath of the threat, Noem called on Trump’s opponents to tone down their harsh rhetoric against the president.
“All politicians and members of the media should take notice of these repeated attempts on President Trump’s life and tone down their rhetoric,” Noem continued. “I will continue to take all measures necessary to ensure the protection of President Trump.”
DHS confirmed in its press release that Morales will remain in ICE custody at the Dodge County Jail in Juneau, Wisconsin, pending his deportation proceedings.
