St. John’s guard Ian Jackson will miss the upcoming game against Creighton due to an ankle injury, dealing a blow to the team’s lineup. Jackson suffered the injury during the game against Marquette and was able to finish the game after receiving treatment.
St. John’s injury luck has hit a snag. Starting guard Ian Jackson will miss Saturday afternoon’s game at the Garden against Creighton with a sprained ankle, as reported by NY Post Sports.
Jackson suffered the injury early in the first half at Marquette, and was able to finish the game after getting the ankle taped up. Coach Rick Pitino expressed uncertainty about Jackson’s availability for the following game at No. 5 Connecticut on Wednesday, citing the severity of the ankle sprain.
The 6-foot-5 Jackson is one of the 17th-ranked Johnnies’ best shooters and most talented players. Nevertheless, he has not been finishing games, as Pitino goes with Dylan Darling in crunch time. Jackson’s improvement in other areas of his game, such as his 12 assists and 11 rebounds in a recent practice, has been notable, according to Pitino.
Pitino is considering various options to replace Jackson in the starting lineup, including Joson Sanon, Darling, or sharpshooting sophomore Lefteris Liotopoulos. Liotopoulos is coming off a strong eight-point performance off the bench and had a career-high 17 points and five 3-pointers in the first contest against Creighton.
There was a large St. John’s contingent at Thursday night’s Knicks-Pistons game at the Garden to support former Johnnie Daniss Jenkins. Pitino, associate head coach Steve Masiello, assistant coach Ricky Johns, graduate assistant Stephen Boateng, and players Zuby Ejiofor and Sadiku Ibine Ayo were in attendance to watch Jenkins, who has become a part of the Eastern Conference’s leaders rotation as the backup to star Cade Cunningham.

Pitino praised Jenkins’ performance, saying, “It was great. Daniss is getting a lot of minutes. He’s on a great team. It’s exciting for him.” Ejiofor joked about Pitino’s seating arrangement, saying, “I don’t think Coach likes me as much as you guys might think.”
