If there’s one thing Serena Williams won’t be retiring from any time soon, it’s the Met Gala red carpet.
The tennis superstar and fashion showstopper made her return to the Met steps tonight, where she wore an aqua blue look from Moncler.
The icy dress featured off-the-shoulder straps and a cowl neckline, with a spiral of transparent material cutting through the skirt and satin heels to match. Ever the queen of capes, Williams completed the look with a matching shawl that was composed of fluffy down panels.
As for accessories, Williams added silver barrettes in the shape of wings, which matched her large, statement-making earrings.
This is Williams’s eighth time attending the New York City-based fundraising gala, and it likely won’t be her last.
In the past, the Olympic gold medal winner has always turned heads with her looks, be it with a ombré feather Gucci cape or a sunburst-like fastener from Oscar de la Renta. In fact, Williams seems to like the Met Gala so much, that she even used it as a venue to flaunt her baby bump in 2017, when she was pregnant with her daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. Oh, then in 2023, she used it to announce her second pregnancy.
Back in 2019, Williams served as a co-chair for the event, when the theme for the exhibition that year was “Camp: Notes on Fashion.” For her look, the athlete certainly leaned into her campy side, choosing a custom Atelier Versace gown in highlighter yellow, which was adorned with pink floral decoupage. For a fittingly sporty touch, Williams completed the look with a set of matching yellow sneakers, pulled from the Off-White x Nike Air Force 1 collaboration.
