President Donald Trump signed a series of new executive orders this week, continuing to push forward with flexing the powers of the presidency.
One order signed Aug. 25 seeks to penalize flag burning, though legal precedent holds burning a flag alone is a protected under free speech. Other orders signed the same day are aimed at requiring suspects to post a cash bond while awaiting trial, either through withholding funding from jurisdictions that have reformed their cash bail systems or through holding D.C. suspects in federal custody.
Trump has been testing the bounds of executive power, signing executive orders at a record pace. In his first 100 days, those also resulted in a record number of legal fights headed to the U.S. Supreme Court.
