Honda has recalled over 65,000 vehicles due to an issue that could lead to the vehicles rolling away when it is in park.

Impacted vehicles include certain 2013 Honda Accord vehicles. According to Honda, the driveshaft may corrode and break due to damage from road salt or other contaminants.

“A broken driveshaft can result in a loss of drive power, or a vehicle rollaway when the vehicle is in park without the parking brake applied,” Honda wrote in an announcement on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website. “Both scenarios can increase the risk of a crash or injury.”

Here’s what to know about the recall and what to do if you drive the impacted vehicles.

Recall is an expansion of a previous recall

The recall is an expansion of previous recall number 20V769, which was announced in December 2020 and January 2021. The recall included 235,034 2013 to 2015 Honda Accord vehicles.

“The drive shafts were assembled with a lubricant that may have degraded the drive shafts’ protective coating, making it more susceptible to damage from road salt or other contaminants, and potentially (causing) it to break,” Honda said at the time.

The new recall includes 65,115 2013 Honda Accord vehicles under recall numbers:

  • NHTSA – 25V422000

  • Honda – OM2
