Political analyst Mark Halperin called out the legacy media Wednesday on SiriusXM’s “The Megyn Kelly Show” for “acting as if there’s some mystery” to former White House physician Kevin O’Connor’s actions during the Biden administration, saying he could be guilty of “abusing the public trust.”
O’Connor, former President Joe Biden’s physician, pleaded the Fifth Wednesday during his deposition with the House Oversight Committee, refusing to answer lawmakers’ questions regarding reports of the former president’s mental decline while in office. Discussing how O’Connor refused to answer, Kelly said she believes he appeared to be “too close” to former First Lady Jill Biden and “has a loyalty to the Bidens as opposed to the country.”
“Well, all presidents choose as their White House physician someone they’re comfortable with. I know you’re not guilty of this, but I think too much of the press is acting as if there’s some mystery here about what the guy did. Now, some of the details are a mystery and who exactly was in charge is a mystery, but there’s no mystery here,” Halperin said. “He didn’t ever answer questions from the press.”
“He either, as I said before, he either performed tests and lied about whether they were performed and didn’t disclose the results or he didn’t perform them. Whereas it doesn’t make any sense not to have had brain scans. It doesn’t make any sense not to have had cancer tests,” Halperin added.
Following Biden’s disastrous debate against Trump in June 2024, White House logs reviewed by the New York Post reportedly showed a top Washington, D.C. neurologist had a meeting with O’Connor earlier that year. The report came after many, including Democrats and media pundits, began to question Biden’s mental fitness after watching him struggle to finish his arguments against Trump, freezing mid-sentence at one point during their debate.

“So, I don’t know, as I said before, I don’t know what crime he might be guilty of, but I do know that he’s abusing the public trust,” Halperin said. “After four years of participating in the coverup and arguably the central figure, because he is a doctor and he does have a responsibility both to his patient and the public interest, I just think it’s hard to me to see how he’s gonna sustain this. Unless the coverup was even more insidious than we knew it to be.”
“In other words, one thing that hasn’t been acknowledged by anybody on the inside, and he’d be considered on the inside, is that they knew how bad it was and they covered it up. Their premise is we didn’t really know,” Halperin said. “If it went that far, again, I don’t know that that’s a crime, but it’s a political crime, and it’s a policy crime, and it’s an irresponsible action for a doctor who is supposed to have an obligation to the American people to have done.”
For years, Democrats downplayed Biden’s mental decline, with lawmakers calling the former president “sharp,” and Biden’s aides brushing off videos of him stumbling and misspeaking as “cheap fakes.”
Republicans attempted to warn about signs of Biden’s mental acuity prior to his 2020 campaign. Many Democrats defended the former president until his debate.
With polls showing the American public also viewed Biden as too old to run for a second term, the former president continued to push on in his campaign until July 21, 2024, when he officially withdrew and endorsed former Vice President Kamala Harris.
Since the former president exited the White House, books about Biden’s time in office have revealed an inside look at his administration. According to Jake Tapper’s and Alex Thompson’s book, aides of Biden at one point became so concerned about the former president’s mental health that some suggested putting him in a wheelchair following the presidential election.
