The year was 2012 and American Apparel had us all in chokehold. Absolutely everyone had one of those teeny tiny A-line skater skirts. You probably paired yours with a tight leotard or, maybe, a boxy crop top. The glory days of American Apparel may be a thing of the past and your A-line skater skirts may have found their way to the Goodwill pile long ago—but Heidi Klum just made a very strong case for bringing the classic outfit formula back.
The model stepped out in New York City wearing an updated version of the iconic silhouette. Instead of the classic colorful corduroy, she opted for a high-waisted leather black A-line mini, which she paired with an ultra cropped boxy black T-shirt with a torso that was the same length as the sleeves. She finished off the look with a pair of sheer pantyhose, black pointed-toe heels, a teeny tiny black handbag, and a pair of square black sunglasses.

This is a woman who has seen ‘New Girl.’
Klum’s latest look may be a total throwback, but it’s only the latest in a long line of bold looks she’s debuted on the streets of New York City in recent weeks. On Saturday, April 19, Klum rocked a plunging sheer nude dress with buttons and white feather details on the skirt. A few weeks earlier, she stepped out in another all-black look, this time, pairing a plunging blazer with a sheer maxiskirt. She has also been spotted in a few looks for her appearances on Germany’s Next Topmodel, including a pair of sparkly silver leggings that doubled as boots and a plunging red blazer and matching bra.
