Hayden Panettiere Shows Off Hair Makeover After Bleach Damage

“Nashville” star Hayden Panettiere is ushering in a fresh chapter, and it starts with her hair.

Hayden Panettiere took to Instagram on Saturday, March 29, to debut a stunning hair transformation after years of damage caused by bleaching, heat styling, and long hours in makeup chairs on set.

“My hair was so damaged from all the bleaching and color changes, not to mention all the heat from styling,” she shared. “Hours in the hair and makeup chair on set had also taken its toll.”

To revive her blonde locks, Panettiere turned to celebrity stylist Becker Chicaiza, whose work has recently taken him to pop-ups in Los Angeles, New York, and Miami. “Thank you @BeckerChicaiza for coming to the rescue,” she wrote. “I’m in love with how this turned out!”

In a behind-the-scenes video from the salon session, Panettiere candidly admitted, “I’ve never had roots, like, this long because I did a film. For the film, I had kept my roots [high on my scalp], but I bleached my hair Barbie-blonde. [It] zapped my hair off.” She described her hair before the appointment as “a disaster.”

Chicaiza worked his magic by not only restoring her signature blonde shade but also incorporating soft lowlights to create dimension. When she saw the final result, Panettiere beamed, “This is the color that I should have been for a long time. This is gonna make me want to strut down Broadway. Oh, my God, wow! This is insane.”

The transformation was topped off with the addition of extensions, styled in tousled, beachy waves that grazed just below her shoulders. “I feel beautiful. I thought I lost my hair forever,” Panettiere said. “I feel like a beautiful ‘Becker Babe!’”

Chicaiza responded to the love with a comment on Instagram, calling Panettiere “such a dream to work with.” He added, “Thank you for trusting Becker to bring your hair back to life. This transformation was all about restoring strength, shine and movement.”

Panettiere has been open about her past struggles with health and hair loss, revealing in a 2023 Women’s Health interview that postpartum depression had also taken a toll. “My body was like, ‘enough,’” she recalled.

“I hit 30. My face was swollen. I had jaundice. My eyes were yellow. I had to go to a liver specialist. I was holding on to weight that wasn’t normally there. My hair was thin and coming out in clumps.”

Back in October, it was reported that one of Panettiere’s family members traveled to Los Angeles in a determined effort to get the actress into a rehabilitation facility. The intervention, which allegedly took place on Sunday, October 6, also involved the family member removing her boyfriend, Brian Hickerson, from her home in an effort to support her recovery.

The move came just weeks after growing concern from fans who questioned Panettiere’s well-being following a September 18 interview with PEOPLE. When a clip from the interview was shared on the publication’s Instagram page, fans quickly flooded the comments with alarm over her behavior.

“Slurred speech, eyes can barely stay open, trying to make it through long words clearly not sober. Very sad,” one user commented. Among the concerned voices was “Dancing with the Stars” pro Peta Murgatroyd, who urged, “This interview should be removed asap!!”

Panettiere addressed the backlash herself just days later, on September 22.

In a post shared to her Instagram, the actress blamed her behavior on sheer exhaustion. “It’s unfathomable that I’m even in this position, but I feel forced to address it in a space where I won’t be criticized for how fast or slow I speak,” she wrote.

She explained that she hadn’t slept for two days prior due to caring for one of her dogs, who had just undergone emergency surgery. “It was an 8-hour shoot followed by an on-camera interview that was supposed to last for 1 hour,” she shared.

Panettiere added that her representative eventually ended the interview early when it became clear she was “fading, especially as the subject matter became heavier.”
